Operational Notes

 

  1. Training Restaurants

    1.1. The Dining Society (TDS) and its Training Restaurants are located on

    1. the 8th floor of the VTC Kowloon Bay Complex, 46 Tai Yip Street, Kowloon Bay, Kowloon – Western Training Restaurant
    2. the 6th floor of the VTC Pokfulam Complex, 145 Pokfulam Road, Hong Kong – Western Training Restaurant
    3. the 8th floor of the VTC Pokfulam Complex, 145 Pokfulam Road, Hong Kong – Chinese Training Restaurant

     

    1.2. The Dining Society’s Training Restaurants are open for lunch from 12:00noon to 2:30pm on Mondays to Fridays (except public holidays) and from 6:00pm to 9:30pm when theme dinners are scheduled (except the Western Training Restaurant at Kowloon Bay). Training Restaurant operation hours are subject to change due to special circumstances. Please refer to TDS newsletter and website (https://www.tds.org.hk/en/) for details.

    1.3. Food preparation and food and beverage services will be undertaken by students and teaching staff at the institutes.

    1.4. As the Training Restaurants are part of the training area, with training in progress, persons under 12 years of age are not admitted in the Training Restaurants.

  2. Membership

    2.1. Corporate:

    Membership for registered companies, societies or associations with up to 3 cards for executive staff, with the privilege of bringing guests. Cards under the same account must be issued together at the time of application or upon renewal.

    2.2. Professional:

    Membership for members serving in the hospitality and tourism-related industry including airlines, travel agencies, hotels, restaurants, amusement parks, tourism boards, clubs, and events management services, with the privilege of bringing guests. Spouse membership should be applied for at the time of application or upon renewal.

    2.3. Associate:

    Membership for those whose patronage is relevant to the practical training in the food and beverage services of The Dining Society, with the privilege of bringing guests. Spouse membership should be applied for at the time of application or upon renewal.

    Please note: There will be no refund of membership fee and no transfer of membership will be accepted.

    2.4. Membership renewal applications (except Corporate renewal applications) are available online.

  3. Reservation Procedures

    3.1. Members may make reservations via telephone 3717-7388 at 09:00 – 18:00 daily. For luncheon bookings, members may also reserve directly via our online reservation system at www.tds.org.hk/en/. Members may also reach us for inquiries by fax 2550-2001 or by email res-tds@vtc.edu.hk.

    3.2. Free parking during opening hours is available subject to space. Please advise us of your car plate number when making reservations or one business day in advance

    3.3. No one member shall have the sole use of the Training Restaurants. Bookings for parties over 8 persons must be confirmed in writing, subject to availability of space

    3.4. To ensure each member has a chance for enjoying the TDS memberships, large tables are discouraged. Members should reserve no more than 12 people per membership in the Chinese Training Restaurant and 8 people per membership in the Western Training Restaurants, subject to any prevailing government guidelines applicable to catering business.

    3.5. Restaurant reservations for each meal period will be restricted to no more than 14 days in advance

    3.6. No standing orders for table reservation will be entertained. Each member must comply with the 14-day in advance restaurant reservation policy.

    3.7. Late cancellation of booking within 24 hours or no show would have undesirable impact on student training, leading to wastage of planned resources and lost opportunities for other members to support our training. Members who abuse their booking privileges may forfeit their rights to renew their membership.

    3.8. Table reservations will be held for a maximum of 15 minutes from the reservation time.

  4. Billing Arrangements

    The Society is a non-profit making organization.

    4.1. Sales can be settled by Cash, American Express Card or Visa/Mastercard.

    4.2. There will be no service charge. Tipping of students is not encouraged.

    4.3. Membership card must be presented upon settlement of bill.

  5. Dress Code

    5.1. Proper business attire or smart casual is required at all times. No shorts, sandals, caps or sleeveless t-shirts are allowed. Students and Instructors in-charge reserve the right to refuse entry to those whose attire does not conform to the requirements.

  6. Mobile Phones and Pagers

    6.1. All mobile phones must be silenced prior to entering the Training Restaurants to create a favorable dining environment to all members.

  7. Replacement Card

    7.1. Replacement cards may incur a fee of $100 each.

  8. Training Operation

    8.1. Students are aware of the objectives and educational nature of the training experience. Conversation with Students and Instructors should be conducted in English or Putonghua in order to enhance communication skills and confidence. Members’ cooperation in this area would be much appreciated.

    8.2. The level of service may vary from time to time, according to the training progress of the Food and Beverage Service students. However, all efforts will be made to provide a consistent high standard of service.

    8.3. Student interests are our utmost priority and individual safety and campus security are of primary concern at the Institutes. During adverse weather conditions (such as red/black rainstorm and Typhoon 8 and above) or under special circumstances to meet the student training needs, we would adjust the practical training schedule and operations of the training restaurants. In the event of facility enhancement and suspension of face-to-face training in compliance with the government/Council’s guidelines, members would be informed of such arrangements as soon as practicable.

    8.4. As The Dining Society is committed to being an environmentally friendly society and providing students with opportunities to learn about the latest practices of the hospitality industry, TDS newsletter will be issued through digital channels to members who indicated agreement to marketing consent in their membership applications.     8.5. In case of any disputes, the decision of The Dining Society shall be final.
